GOL Cargo Aircraft Overshoots Runway in Salvador

A GOLLOG Boeing 737-800BCF freighter overshot the runway after landing at Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães International Airport in Salvador, Brazil. According to Brazilian media reports, the aircraft was operating flight G39618 from São Paulo Guarulhos to Salvador. The incident occurred in the morning hours, and there were no passengers on board. The crew escaped the occurrence without injuries.

Initial reports indicate that light rain and mist were affecting the area at the time of the landing. The runway surface was reported to be wet, and the aircraft is said to have passed the runway end before entering the safety area, where the landing gear became stuck in the grass. Images from the scene show the aircraft stopped off the runway on the grass surface.

Airport operator VINCI Airports temporarily closed the affected runway after the incident so the aircraft could be removed and the initial investigation could begin. Airport operations reportedly continued on the other runway, while Brazilian civil aviation authorities launched an investigation into the occurrence.
